contents: Catechisms are among the most printed and disseminated texts in the 16th century. The printer of this Heidelberg catechism from 1566 did not, however, make himself known by way of an imprint. In the time of Alva and the Iconoclasm that was certainly not advisable. Nevertheless, it is known that the printer was Harman Schinckel of Delft. Two years later he was sentenced to death ad executed for printing and selling heretical works, including this catechism. The sober but logical design of this 8vo edition is in line with the Calvinist principles expressed within it.
