contents: At the end of the 16th century, Gijsbert Coeverincx (c. 1539-1613) was the Archdeacon of 's-Hertogenbosch and one of the professors at the seminary that had been founded in 1571 by order of the Duke of Alva. In the preliminaries of this textbook of Latin grammar, "Primæ stvdiorvm exercitationes" ('s-Hertogenbosch, Jan Scheffer II, 1585), Coeverincx is stated as censor. It is an example of preventive censorship whereby books, prior to their publication, had to be judged and approved by a representative from the church - in this case in the person of the Archdeacon.
