contents: Interior of a well-stocked bookshop around 1650, with bound and unbound books. The bookseller holds a letter with the words `altijd wat nieus' (always something new). In the course of the 17th century the number of booksellers increased greatly. The quality of the books produced in the Republic was highly esteemed everywhere. From the whole of Europe books were purchased here, which was an economic factor of importance for the young Republic.
