contents: For the endpapers of books the binder often used this kind of home-made paste paper. He made all kinds of patterns in paste coloured with paint using his finger, a brush, piece of wood or a coarse comb. Different colours and patterns could easily be applied one on top of the other after drying or using wet-in-wet techniques.
