It is a representation of the spiritualistic and prophetic views of the Anabaptist David Joris, who considered himself to be the new prophet and Messiah. The printer was jailed for seven months and was not allowed to practise his trade for fourteen months. The editor of the book, Jorien Ketel, was executed and beheaded. The book was nevertheless reprinted several times.
