contents: When the composing stick is full, the lines are transferred to the galley. The composition (hundreds of small pieces of lead) is secure within the edges of this "serving tray" which is open on one side in order to be able to slide it out easily onto a smooth stone workbench. To secure the typeset material, a string is wound round: the page is then bound up.
