contents: In 1618 the National Synod of the Dutch Reformed Church decided on a new translation of the Bible. It would be 1635 before the whole translation was completed, revised and approved. Printing took place in Leiden, where the Amsterdam printer Paulus Aertsz van Ravesteyn had organised a printing office for this very purpose. In the summer of 1637 this prestigious work was completed. The text is in Gothic type, the marginalia and summaries at the beginning of every book of the Bible in roman, and the running title in italics. The illuminated initials often shows a biblical scene.
