contents: This edition of Jacob van Lennep's best known work, "Ferdinand Huyck", dedicated to King William III, was meant to be a monument for Van Lennep and neither trouble nor expense was spared to make a large, luxurious edition, on good, royal paper, in a beautiful binding and with new drawings from the best contemporary artists. One of them was David Bles, who was a great authority on the 18th century. Photogravures were made of his drawings using the new technological possibilities. This illustration also shows an 18th-century bookcase that could be opened and shut with a sliding panel.
