contents: A civilité letter (a Gothic script type, originating in France, hence the name written 'in the old way') in great primer and cicero type,cut by Ameet Tavernier for Christopher Plantin in Antwerp. Tavernier was a Frenchman who had settled in Antwerp in 1557. In the second half of the 16th century many new letters with a strong French influence were cut in the Southern Netherlands. Hereby Christopher Plantin played a significant role.
