contents: Two pages from an ordinance with rules and regulations against the printing and distribution of banned books. The rules with which the printers and booksellers had to comply were very strict, and contraventions were heavily punished. The government was terrified of the dissemination of ideas they considered unacceptable. All publications, e.g. had to be cleared by an ecclesiastical censor, only officially registered booksellers were allowed to run a bookshop and had to hand in stock lists to the authorities.
