Printer, from "De keus uit twaalf ambachten, ter vermijding van dertien ongelukken" (The choice of twelve trades for the avoidance of thirteen accidents), Amsterdam, 1829 Portielje, Gerrit (drukker/printer) year: [1829] type: prent detail: nee dimensions: 9,5 x 5,5 cm. related terms: boekdrukkerijen kinderboeken period: 19e eeuw classification: D: Geschiedenis van de boekdrukkunst contents: This booklet is about a somewhat fickle boy, Willem, who dabbles here and there in his learning of a trade which usually ends in failure. Here he is employed in a printing shop where he 'was sent on an errand, to clear up the shop or something else and he did not feel too good about it'. Readers who have still to choose a trade can learn how things are done in a printing shop from the narrative. With its simple layout and illustration on the right-hand page, this is a typical Dutch children's book from the first half of the 19th century. origineel: source: De keus uit twaalf ambachten, ter vermijding van dertien ongelukken. - Amsterdam: G.
