contents: This woodcut is from a book on the life of Jesus, written in the form of a dialogue between two figures, 'die Mensche' and 'Scriptura'. Above them Christ is represented in a medallion with a globe and sceptre. The woodblock from which this print was made was also used a few years later for a completely different book, a 'Legenda Aurea'. In the background at the right is a bookcase where the volumes are not standing up but lie flat, next to one another or lying on top of one another. This was the usual method of storing books at this time.
