contents: Example of an average book from the late 19th / early 20th century, with a layout typical of this period: two columns with in the middle an illustration and a page-sized illustration on the right. The engraving on the right shows a number of heroic women who had to defend home and hearth during the South African Boer War (1899-1902). The book is printed on typical 19th -century strongly acidic paper which becomes brown in time and degrades rapidly.
