contents: In the 19th century, the Netherlands had hundreds of libraries of `t Nut (society for public welfare), popular libraries, reading circles and shop libraries. This library, which opened in 1899, was one of the first modern public libraries in the Netherlands although it was preceded by that of Utrecht in 1892.
