One of these was "Het Nieuws van den Dag", established in 1870 in Amsterdam by Maurits van der Lee, a Dutchman living in Brussels and known there for his success with papers such as "Etoile belge", and the Parisian "Petit Journal". Something similar to this, a small, cheap, general newspaper of Protestant liberal signature, was what Van der Lee had in mind. The paper was successful with an ever-growing circulation and the publication of supplements. This illusatration shows the printing house of Roeloffzen and Hübner in Amsterdam where the paper was printed. origineel: ©description: Den Haag Koninklijke Bibliotheek ©reproduction: Amsterdam Bibliotheek KVB Universiteitsbibliotheek UVA |
