Scherm, Laurens (illustrator) year: tweede helft 17e eeuw type: prent detail: nee related terms: leesonderwijs alfabetisering period: 17e eeuw classification: K: Maatschappelijke aspecten van boekproductie en -verspreiding contents: Sketch of the educational situation in a classroom in a 17th -century Northern-Netherlandish village school. These classrooms were very small in our eyes. Classical education was unknown: lessons were given individually. Older and younger children, boys and girls were sitting all together in one room. They usually worked at their own pace, and spelling and reading were done out loud. If a pupil was too disruptive or did not know his lesson, he was punished with a ferule. origineel: ©description: Den Haag Koninklijke Bibliotheek ©reproduction: Amsterdam Rijksmuseum Rijksprentenkabinet |
