contents: The bibliobus of the Provincial Library for central Utrecht from a design by Dick Bruna, inaugurated in 1997. Because mobility in the countryside has improved and also because of economic considerations (rising costs), the number of mobile libraries is declining. Nevertheless, they have certainly not seen their last ride because the modern library is still an efficient and popular way to bring books to people. The bus also often acts as a point of contact for the readers in small provincial communities where other facilities of a cultural nature are scarce.
