contents: Gold-tooled, red morocco binding. In the centre is the coat of arms of stadholder William IV. The binding originates from the First Stadholders' Bindery, so called because many books for William IV were bound there. It was one of the major workshops: almost 200 luxury bindings from The Hague are known. The most beautiful are those that are decorated with ribbon patterns, derived from the 16th century, of which this is an example.
