contents: Title page of the catalogue of the Municipal Library of Amsterdam in 1612, then still housed in an annexe of the Nieuwe Kerk. The engraving shows a book with the city arms, flanked by Neptune, god of navigation, and Mercury, god of trade. Underneath the book is in Greek 'hospital of the soul', the device of the famous library of Thebes.
