contents: The periodical "Wendingen" developed into the most significant mouthpiece of the Amsterdam School. The international fame which it acquired can not only be traced back to its contents: architecture, visual arts, design, etc., but also design contributed to it to an important degree. Besides the large square format and the pages bound together in the Japanese way with raffia, pages which consisted of a pair of conjugate leaves folded inwards, it is especially typography that makes the periodical so striking. The great man behind it was the architect H.Th. Wijdeveld. One of the nicest and most interesting issues is this double issue devoted to the painter Jan Toorop.
