Interior of an art and bookshop, c. 1625 Bray, Salomon de (illustrator) year: [1625-1630] type: tekening drawing detail: nee dimensions: 7,6 x 7,6 cm (ieder) related persons: Bray, Salomon de related terms: boekhandels boekhandelaars prenthandelaars boekbinden period: 17e eeuw classification: G: Boekhandel en uitgeverij contents: These two paintings by Salomon de Bray belong to the very rare contemporary depictions of the interior of a Dutch bookshop. It is probably a bookshop and a picture shop (there are also prints and paintings) in Haarlem, De Bray's hometown. In the bookcases are, besides bound editions, also packets of paper, possibly unbound books in sheets. To the left in the second picture, bookbinders' equipment can be seen and a servant who is engaged in binding a book. It is furthermore clear that the woman took a prominent place in conducting the business. origineel: ©description: Den Haag Koninklijke Bibliotheek ©reproduction: Amsterdam Rijksmuseum Amsterdam Rijksmuseum |
