contents: In the middle is the handle with which the platen (at the bottom of the picture) can be pressed down. On the platen (a flat metal plate) is an attachment attributed to the famous printer, Blaeu, with screws which ensured that the pressure of the platen was transferred evenly to the paper and the composition. This technical improvement shows that this was a press from after Plantins's time.
