Minutes of the booksellers' guild in Amsterdam, 1805-1812 year: 1805-1812 type: handschrift manuscript detail: nee dimensions: afmetingen onbekend related terms: beroepsverenigingen gilden gildenarchieven period: 19e eeuw classification: G: Boekhandel en uitgeverij D: Geschiedenis van de boekdrukkunst contents: With the arrival of the Batavian Republic in 1798 all guilds were abolished, including that of the booksellers and printers. Now everyone could freely settle everywhere as bookseller or printer, a fact against which the former members of the guilds strongly resisted. In 1801 the guilds were admitted again, but their future remained uncertain and dependent on all kinds of ever-changing regulations. Only in 1818 did King William I cut the Gordian knot and the guilds were abolished once and for all. origineel: source: Notulen van 1805-1812 ©description: Den Haag Koninklijke Bibliotheek ©reproduction: Amsterdam Bibliotheek KVB Universiteitsbibliotheek UVA |
