contents: Harmsen & Co., the type foundry of Gerrit Harmsen and his father-in-law Petrus Denijssen in Amsterdam, was the first in the Netherlands to put these kinds of decorative letters on the market. Most letters from the type specimen are based on the matrices of the type foundry of J. de Groot and his successors, originally established in The Hague. In 1818 Harmsen & Co. was sold to Enschedé, their only competitor in the first years of the 19th century.
