contents: The N.V. Lettergieterij 'Amsterdam' , voorheen N. Tetterode, owned a collection of Chinese matrices of more than 9100 different characters. Building this collection, both from purchase abroad and from founding them in their own foundry, had already been started in 1859 by the founder of the firm Nicolaas Tetterode. Making large numbers of matrices of all those complicated Chinese characters proved to be very time-consuming and expensive, but it made the N.V. Lettergieterij 'Amsterdam' , formerly N.Tetterode, famous.
