The librije of Enkhuizen Biemans, Jos A.A.M. (fotograaf/photographer) year: ca. 1990 type: dia slide detail: nee related terms: librijes bibliotheekgebouwen period: 17e eeuw classification: J: Bibliotheken en instellingen contents: The Enkhuizen librije (library) has been established more than four hundred years in an annexe of the St Gommarus or Westerkerk (on the first floor in the building to the right). The earliest mention of the library dates from 1597, but accommodation at the present place dates probably to 1628. It is a typical Reformed church library with many theological works but it might also have served as the town library. In 1652 the collection was considerably enlarged by a bequest from Jacob Meyndertsz Brouwer. origineel: ©description: Dr Jos A A M Biemans Leiden ©reproduction: Dr Jos A A M Biemans Leiden |
