contents: Leading magazine which appeared every two weeks from 1840 to 1910. It soon contained, in addition to wood engravings, one or more lithographs in every issue, at first black-and-white, later also chromolithographs: lithographs in colour. At a later date etchings, heliographs, photogravures and phototypes were added so that almost all the 19th-century reproduction techniques can be seen in this magazine. Here is a reproduction by the lithographer W. de Koning of a painting by the contemporary landscapist B.C. Koekkoek.
