contents: The cylinder press was introduced around 1830, but was only commonly used after about 1880. They were made in Germany such as this one built by C.A. Reichenbach in Augsburg in 1846, later also in France and Belgium and America. The first cylinder presses produced some 500 sheets per hour, later even 1000 sheets per hour. Wooden and iron hand presses had only a production speed of 100-125 sheets per hour.
