contents: An edition of one of the most important works by Aurelius Augustinus (354-450). He wrote this philosophy of history from a theological perpective in the fifth century as a vindication of the Christian faith. The text with the commentary by the English Dominicans Nicolaus Trevet and Thomas Waleys originated from the the 14th century. Shortly after the invention of the art of printing, the text in combination with these commentaries was published for the first time in 1473 by the German printer Peter Schoeffer. Already in the period of the incunables, various editions appeared, among which this one produced by printer Johan van Westfalen.
