contents: In 1926 the printing and publishing firm A.W. Sijthoff had been in existence for 75 years. On that occasion, a commemorative volume with photographs was brought out which included this illustration. Already in the 19th century, books were beginning to look more varied due in the first place to the use of the publisher's binding which was also called a 'fly binding' or 'industrial binding'. In addition to plain bindings and bindings with colour and/or a gold imprint, from the beginning of the 20th century, more and more books appeared with figurative representations in colour. These were used in particular for children's books, girls' books and adventure novels.
