contents: The edge of this binding is gilded, painted and chased with all kinds of imaginary images relating to love and marriage such as the god of love, Amor, who shoots arrows at hands fastened by a lock, turtle doves, a copulating cock and hen and the pelican which is feeding its young with its own blood. The binding was intended for Gillis Pelgrom and Anna Elisabeth van Uchelen of Amsterdam on the occasion of their marriage in 1679.
