contents: On Christmas Day 1844, the German doctor Heinrich Hoffman drew for his three-year old son the caricatures that were to make him world-famous. Through the childishness and the morality of text and drawing, which was considered witty at the time, and through the simplicity of the themes "Der Struwwelpeter", or Shock-headed Peter became tremendously popular. This first edition was published in Germany, because, according to the publisher, there was no thorough command of the art of lithography in the Netherlands.
