contents: In the 19th century, countless publications appeared on the market specifically intended for women of which this book is a typical example. The neogothic, moralistic frontispiece by C.C. Last (1808-1876) promises something quite shocking and the readers could expect much feminine sacrifice, heroism and pious devotion to a matter which 'is worth the suffering and struggle of body and soul'. Apart from this one, the book has no other illustrations at all.
