contents: A hand compositor working with Chinese or Japanese characters in the printing office of `N.V. Boekhandel en Drukkerij', formerly E.J. Brill, in Leiden. Composing texts in these kinds of scripts had long been a specialty of E.J. Brill's. Chinese and Japanese texts could not yet be composed with photo-typesetting machines. One therefore had to remain working in lead for quite some time for these texts.
