contents: The first printer in Haarlem was not Laurens Janszoon Coster but Jacob Bellaert. This book from his list is about a lawsuit which the devil had instituted against Christ. In this picture we see Solomon, the judge, in the middle with Belial on the left as prosecutor and Moses on the right as Christ's counsel for the defence. As with almost all 15th-century book illustrators and woodcutters the designer of these illustrations is anonymous. He is indicated by the working name 'the Master of Jacob Bellaert'. In all, 32 different woodblocks were used in ever-changing combinations.
