contents: In 1964 the publishers Bezig Bij brought out this book, "Ik, Jan Cremer", the 'inevitable bestseller' about the (partially fictional) carryings on of an uninhibited and easy-going underdog on the fringes of society. The novel aroused a storm of indignation. Many found it a scandalous, immoral and dangerous book full of dirty, filthy words. The book, however, was a great success and found its way to a large reading public including people who previously had never been in a bookshop.
