contents: Illustration to go with a description of the art of printing as an invention of the past. The book was originally written in German (Versuch eines Handbuchs der Erfindungen, by G.C.B. Busch. - 1790-1798). That the text has been revised by the translator can be seen from the following sentence on the subject: 'Zoo ook kan men de drukkunst niet zoo bepaaldelijk aan eenen eenigen uitvinder toeschrijven' (It is not easy to ascribe the art of printing to one particular inventor). The translator would have liked to ascribe the invention to a fellow-countryman, but was prepared to admit that "Coster, door wat toeval dan ook, een poos tijd zijne werkzaamheen moest staken, terwijl men in Duitschland ook aan het vinden der boekdrukkunst bezig was." (Coster had to stop working for a time while Germany was also busy with the art of printing).
