contents: Gold-tooled red saffian. Both boards have a sober classicistic tooling, usual for the beginning of the 19th century. Around 1800, morocco was also replaced in luxury bindings by saffian: a kind of leather (usually sheep) with an artificial pressing. The binding is signed on the spine by the binder F.J. Wenker from Amsterdam.
